Stephen Sagan

My name is Esteban Alvarez, and I am the creator of Stephen Sagan, an electronic music project inspired by tranquility, meditation, and the search for inner peace.

I was born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1984, and music has been a constant presence throughout my life. As a self-taught musician, I began exploring music during my school years, driven by curiosity, creativity, and a deep fascination with sound.

My early musical experiences came through amateur rock cover bands, where I discovered the joy of performing and the emotional connection that music can create. Later, in 2008, I began my journey as a DJ, performing in major Colombian cities such as Medellín, Bogotá, and Cali. Those years helped me develop a deeper understanding of rhythm, atmosphere, and the power of music to influence emotions and bring people together.

In 2018, I started learning music production with the goal of creating my own music. What began as a personal challenge gradually evolved into a creative path that allowed me to transform ideas, emotions, and life experiences into original compositions.

The Stephen Sagan project officially began with the release of my first single, “Birds Visit”, on July 31, 2025.

The name Stephen Sagan holds a special meaning for me. While “Stephen” is a reference to my own name, Esteban, it is also a tribute to Stephen Hawking, one of the scientists I have admired most throughout my life. “Sagan” honors Carl Sagan, whose vision of the cosmos, humanity, and our place in the universe has profoundly inspired me. Together, these names represent two minds that fueled my curiosity, imagination, and sense of wonder.

Through Stephen Sagan, I create electronic music that invites listeners to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves. My work draws inspiration from meditation, consciousness, nature, and the vast mysteries of the universe. Rather than focusing solely on entertainment, I seek to create immersive soundscapes that encourage calm, presence, and introspection.

For me, music is more than a collection of sounds—it is a space for exploration, awareness, and connection. Stephen Sagan is the expression of that journey, and every release is an invitation to share it.
